Our organization

The Alberta Securities Commission (ASC) is the industry-funded regulator responsible for administering the province's securities laws. It is entrusted with fostering a fair and efficient capital market in Alberta and with protecting investors. As a member of the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA), the ASC works to improve, coordinate and harmonize the regulation of Canada's capital markets.

 

The Information Technology (IT) team is responsible for making sure that the ASC has the appropriate resources necessary to ensure the consistent, reliable and secure delivery of services, and understanding and anticipating the organization’s unique technology requirements.

The opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Enterprise Information, Data and AI, this 18-month term role provides technical and specialized expertise to support the ASC’s enterprise-wide transition from its legacy document management system to Microsoft SharePoint Online.

 

This role helps to ensure that enterprise content is migrated, structured, governed, and secured in alignment with enterprise content management (ECM) best practices, regulatory obligations, and long-term information management objectives. It provides the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by reducing risk associated with large-scale content migration while ensuring continuity of business operations while establishing a sustainable, modern ECM foundation.

Key responsibilities include

ECM and SharePoint migration

  • Provide senior technical expertise supporting the ASC’s migration from its current document management systems (e.g. OpenText, eDOCs) to SharePoint Online.
  • Lead end‑to‑end SharePoint migration activities, including content discovery, assessment, data mapping, remediation, migration execution, validation, and post‑migration stabilization.
  • Apply ECM best practices to ensure migrated content is well‑structured, searchable, governed, and compliant with requirements.
  • Design and implement SharePoint information architecture, including site structures, document libraries, content types, metadata models, taxonomy, and retention.
  • Work closely with Records & Information Management, Cyber Security, and business stakeholders to ensure classification, permissions, and compliance requirements are embedded in the target solution.

 

SharePoint and Microsoft 365 solution delivery

  • Design, build, enhance, and support SharePoint Online solutions, including intranets, Teams‑integrated workspaces, and document management solutions.
  • Implement Microsoft‑recommended best practices for SharePoint governance, architecture, security, and lifecycle management.
  • Develop and enhance workflows and business processes using Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI).
  • Integrate and support eSignature platforms (e.g., Adobe Sign) within SharePoint‑enabled processes.

 

Technical guidance and support

  • Provide technical advice and recommendations on ECM and SharePoint migration strategies, tools, implementation approaches and third-party solutions.
  • Mentor and coach team members on ECM principles, SharePoint architecture, and modern document management practices.
  • Troubleshoot and provide senior‑level support on complex SharePoint, workflow, and ECM‑related issues. and continuous improvement initiatives.

The ideal candidate will possess

  • A college diploma or university degree in computer science, information systems, or computer engineering.
  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience specializing in SharePoint and related technologies, with progressive responsibility.
  • Demonstrated hands‑on experience leading or delivering enterprise SharePoint migrations, preferably from legacy ECM or document management systems (e.g., OpenText eDOCS or similar platforms).
  • Proven expertise in ECM concepts, including metadata, taxonomy, content classification, governance, and retention
  • Advanced experience with SharePoint Online, SharePoint Framework (SPFx), Power Apps, Power Automate, and Microsoft 365.
  • Proficiency in development tools such as SPFx, React JS, Typescript, HTML5, SCSS, CSS JavaScript, jQuery, REST API, and PowerApps.
  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Azure and cloud services.
  • Excellent project management, analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in automation of workflows and redesigning business processes.
  • Strong interpersonal and verbal/written communication skills with the ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to business stakeholders, and balance the needs of management, technical teams, and end users.
