Our organization

The Alberta Securities Commission (ASC) is the industry-funded regulator responsible for administering the province's securities laws. It is entrusted with fostering a fair and efficient capital market in Alberta and with protecting investors. As a member of the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA), the ASC works to improve, coordinate and harmonize the regulation of Canada's capital markets.

 

The Enforcement Division enforces Alberta securities laws by investigating, disrupting and prosecuting breaches of those laws with an eye for preventing and stopping current and future misconduct.

The opportunity

This position and will provide comprehensive senior level administrative support to the Director, Enforcement, to two Senior Enforcement Counsel and to the Manager, Enforcement Operations.

Key responsibilities include

  • Proactively managing and prioritizing calendars, resolving scheduling conflicts, ensuring the team is fully prepared for meetings and presentations with appropriate materials, and staying on track with daily schedules.
  • Managing all incoming requests, preparing correspondence, and ensuring all correspondence and orders for review and signature adhere with ASC standards.
  • Coordinating various meetings and working sessions with both internal and external parties.
  • Drafting, editing and proofreading correspondence, agendas, presentations, reports and other materials with minimal supervision, requiring an understanding of applicable legal terminology and statutory obligations.
  • Preparing relevant reports, statistics, and complex spreadsheets for inclusion in reporting for the director’s review.
  • Providing comprehensive administrative support ranging from complex to routine, such as drafting correspondence, electronic file management, meeting and travel coordination, and other duties as assigned, etc.
  • Recommending administrative practices, with a view to creating efficiencies, enhance training and consistency, and reducing risk.
  • Utilizing a high degree of professionalism and initiative in order to anticipate and meet the needs of the team.

The ideal candidate will possess

  • A legal assistant or recognized administrative assistant diploma or certificate, or equivalent experience.
  • A business-related degree, or equivalent would be considered an asset.
  • A minimum 10 years of progressive administrative experience in a fast-paced, demanding professional environment supporting multiple individuals or groups of people; at least four of those years must be supporting senior management.
  • Advanced computer skills; particularly MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Adobe, SharePoint and Visio.
  • Clear written and verbal communication.
  • Demonstrated organization skills and proficiency in prioritizing multiple demands, with the ability to be highly adaptable and responsive to changing priorities.
  • Proactive problem identification, analysis and resolution capabilities.
  • Strong leadership abilities.

NoteThe successful candidate will be required to provide a Police Information Check with results satisfactory to the ASC prior to commencement of employment.
