The Alberta Securities Commission (ASC) is the industry-funded regulator responsible for administering the province's securities laws. It is entrusted with fostering a fair and efficient capital market in Alberta and with protecting investors. As a member of the Canadian Securities Administrators (CSA), the ASC works to improve, coordinate and harmonize the regulation of Canada's capital markets.

 

The Financial Services department is responsible for effective internal control over financial reporting, annual budget preparation and accurate and timely financial reporting to senior management, Commission Members, the Minister of Finance and other stakeholders.

The opportunity

Reporting to the Manager, Finance & Reporting, the Junior Accountant will review, code and record revenues and expenses in the accounting system. In addition, they will be required to prepare weekly cheque runs and ensure the fee revenue received is accurate in accordance with ASC fee rule.

Key responsibilities include

  • Tracking activities and entering the revenue data using CRM.
  • Classifying, coding and recording expenses and payables by following established accounting procedures and guidelines. In addition, checking balance statements and other information from financial institutions to ensure correctness and completeness.
  • Maintaining and inputting accurate financial data and information such as: The preparation of weekly cheques, EFT’s and wire requests.
  • Issue and distribute notes related to outstanding fees, revenue refunds, and notice of proceeds.

The ideal candidate will possess

  • Relevant post-secondary education in accounting, finance or related area.
  • A minimum of two years experience working with accounts payable and revenue data entry and processing.
  • Demonstrated ability in meeting deadlines, excellent attention to detail, and strong interpersonal and customer service skills.
  • Working knowledge of routine accounting processes and journal entries, internal control processes and external audit requirements.
  • Strong computer literacy skills including MS Office products, specifically Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Experience with Acumatica or similar accounting software is preferred. Experience with CRM will be considered an asset.
